According to a report, Virat Kohli was offered a farewell Test as a captain before stepping down from the leadership role.

Rohit Sharma is down with COVID-19 and there is no information on his participation in the fifth and final Test against England. If he is not available, the visitors will have to look for a new opener and captain.

With vice-captain KL Rahul not part of the team, the BCCI didn’t allocate the position to any player. Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to replace Rohit Sharma as skipper.

However, former leader Virat Kohli is also in scheme of things for one Test. He had left the left Test captaincy after team’s defeat in South Africa.

Moeen Ali wants Kohli to lead India as he was the captain when the visiting team took a 2-1 lead against the hosts.

“It is a tough one but I want to see him leading India as he was the captain when the hosts took the lead against England. But it is his call.”

The all-rounder added it may be possible Virat says no to it as he is concentrating on his batting and doesn’t want any distraction. Having said that, Kohli will be his man for the job.

“He won’t do it as he is relaxed at the moment. However, it is a good idea as he has the experience of leading India.”
