Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar
Virat Kohli eyeing major Sachin Tendulkar records

India will square off against Sri Lanka in the first of the three ODI matches on January 10. The Men in Blue sealed the T20I series and will look to replicate the same in the longer white-ball format.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul will return to the team after sitting out in the T20Is. Meanwhile, former India skipper Virat Kohli, who will play his first game this year, is eyeing two major records held by Sachin Tendulkar against Sri Lanka.

Kohli has struck 72 international hundreds and is only behind Sachin for most centuries in cricket. The 34-year-old has 44 ODI tons, and eight have come against Sri Lanka.

Virat and Sachin have hit eight centuries each against the Island nation, which is the most by any player against Sri Lanka, and Virat will look to surpass Sachin on the list by scoring one more in this series.

Most ODI centuries against Sri Lanka

8 – Virat Kohli

8 – Sachin Tendulkar

7 – Saeed Anwar

6 – Rohit Sharma

6 – Gautam Gambhir

Another record that Kohli is chasing in the tour is to score the most ODI centuries against one team.

At the moment, Sachin and Virat have scored nine centuries each against Australia and West Indies, which is the most by a player against one team. If Kohli scores one against the Dasun Shanaka-led side, he will equal his and Sachin’s record.
