On Thursday, January 19, Vidarbha entered the history books as they bowled out Gujarat for 54 in the final innings of the match to defend the lowest total in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
Chasing a total of 73, Gujarat got cleaned up for 54, and Vidarbha won the match by 18 runs.
The Het Patel-led side broke the 75-year-old record, previously held by Bihar, which defended 78 runs against Delhi in the 1948/49 season.
Vidarbha stumbled on 74 in the first innings. Gujarat took a heavy lead of 182 runs after they put 256 on the board after the end of the first innings.
Vidarbha, batting second, levelled Gujarat’s first innings score, as they gathered 254 runs and asked Gujarat to chase just 73 runs.
Aditya Sarwate proved to be the difference for Vidarbha, as he picked up a six-wicket haul to help Vidarbha create this milestone. No other batter than Siddharth Desai managed to reach double figures.
With the win, Vidarbha climbed to the 3rd spot on the table above Gujarat and the Railways. They are on par with Punjab in points, who are second.
