Umran Malik was a blockbuster hit during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The young pace sensational took 22 wickets in his first full season and was rewarded with a place in Team India’s squad for the five-match T20Is series against South Africa.
However, there is no guarantee of him making his debut as the Men in Blue are looking to find a right bowling combination for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
When head coach Rahul Dravid was asked about Umran ahead of the first match in Delhi, he didn’t confirm anything about pacer’s debut.
“Umran Malik is quick and improving with every session. He has a lot to learn. We have to be realistic about the game time because we have a large squad.”
The hosts could play Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Avesh Khan in Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami’s absence. Hardik Pandya, who is a fast bowler, is likely to fill one bowling spot.
