Team India managed to draw a five-match T20I series against South Africa. After losing two games, the hosts won the third and fourth match to level the series 2-2. However, the last match was abandoned due to persistent rain in Bengaluru, meaning the trophy was shared between the two teams.

Umran Malik, who was sensational in the IPL 2022, failed to get a game against the Proteas. As a result, he was benched for the entire series along with Arshdeep Singh.

He will be traveling to Ireland for the upcoming two-match series.

During a conversation on Star Sports, the possibility of Umran Malik being in the T20 World Cup squad was discussed, and the former India batting coach opined on the matter. While Sanjay Bangar said that Umran would get a debut before the T20 World Cup in Australia, the selectors must have faith in him.

“He will certainly get a debut (before the T20 World Cup). By the time the West Indies tour is finished, he would have played 5 matches. But you get discarded pretty soon if the results don’t go in India’s favor in the World Cup. Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar, who were a part of the global event in 2021, are nowhere to be seen. So you don’t want Umran to face the same situation and get discarded because the results don’t go in the team’s favor.”
