Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh were terrific for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League 2022. They were rewarded with a place in the Indian team for the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa. However, they haven’t been included in the Playing XI.

According to former India coach Sanjay Bangar, Umran and Arshdeep were selected to give them the experience of the dressing room atmosphere and how the team functions.

Bangar said that there may be new faces in the Indian team for the Ireland series but the main motto is to make them familiar with the pressure of international cricket.

“IPL is a domestic league at the end of the day and international cricket is a step-up from that. So, some players like Umran and Arshdeep have been selected for the experience purpose,” he said.

He further said that the national selectors have already shortlisted their 17-18-member squad for the T20 World Cup.

“I think the players who have played in the series against South Africa and the first-team players who are rested, will be a part of the final team for the global event in Australia.”
