R Ashwin has reacted to the death of Sidharth Sharma, who passed away in a private hospital in Vadodara late on Thursday.

He was on a ventilator for the past two weeks and succumbed to multi-organ failure.

A member of the Himachal Pradesh state team, Sidharth last played against Bengal and took five wickets in the first innings at the Eden Gardens.

He fell sick while travelling to Vadodara for an away fixture against Baroda and was admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Ashwin urged the state associations to get health check ups of the players.

“This is scary. Hope every state association will have periodic health check ups for players across age groups. There is so much cricket happening and most of the cricketers find themselves on the road through the year. My thoughts are with Siddharth’s family,” he wrote.

Sharma took 28 wickets in his first-class career while he dismissed 8 batters in six List-A games.
