Virender Sehwag in press conference
Sehwag revealed getting angry on Virat Kohli for dropping a catch

Former India opener Virender Sehwag opened up on the time he received the offer to become India’s head coach after the 2017 Champions Trophy but declined after BCCI refused to accept his offer.

Speaking to News18, Sehwag revealed that Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble were not having cordial relations, which is why the BCCI approached him in 2017 to travel to West Indies as India’s head coach.

“In 2017, Virat Kohli and then BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary approached me saying things are not well between Kohli and Kumble, which is why they want me to take the coaching position after Kumble’s contract expires. They wanted me to travel to West Indies after the 2017 Champions Trophy.”

Sehwag then revealed that he is satisfied with what he has achieved in his life, and said that he would not have applied for the role had Kohli not approached him.

“I wouldn’t have applied if Kohli and Choudhary did not approach me. I did not say yes or no to the role, but I clearly stated that I wanted my coaching staff, the assistant coach, bowling coach, batting coach and fielding coach. However, the BCCI refused to accept my offer, which is why I did not travel to West Indies.”
