Most of the Indian squad for the all-important World Test Championship Final have travelled to London to prepare for the one-off Test against Australia from June 7-11 at The Ovals. The rest of the players, including Shubman Gill, who is in the form of his life, will join after the IPL final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Ahead of the final, all eyes would be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Further, Ajinkya Rahane has also been included in the squad after an impressive domestic season.
Reflecting on the squad, former chief selector MSK Prasad stated that the senior players should step up and deliver and not leave the job up to players like Shubman Gill.
“We have a great bowling unit with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj in great form. Further, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are also on the song. The batters need to quickly adapt to red ball, and the senior batters like Rohit, Rahane, Pujara, and Virat would have to deliver. You cannot leave the job on the shoulders of players like Shubman Gill, despite him being in the form of his life. If senior performs, the youngsters will follow.”
