Mohammed Shami
The 32-year-old marked his return to the national side after almost a year.

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is surprised by Mohammed Shami’s absence from the T20 squad despite his performance in the Indian Premier League.

With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Shami is the favorite to replace the speedster.

Shami last played a T20I at the ICC T20 World Cup against Namibia. Following India’s exit from the tournament, the selectors stopped considering him in the shortest format.

The selectors retained him for Test cricket and one-day internationals while looking for new bowlers in the slam-bang version.

“Shami was not part of the plans, and they didn’t want him to play T20Is for India, which was very surprising because he was one of the best bowlers in the Indian Premier League 2022. He is fit and hungry for wickets,” he said.

“I don’t know why he was not named in the T20I side to manage his workload. He is one of the best bowlers with the new ball, and he can leave the rival team 0 for 3.”
