South Africa’s white-ball captain Temba Bavuma, who went unsold in the SA20 auction, finally got a team in the tournament after his impressive performance in the ODI series against England. He will replace Tom Abell at Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

The management was impressed by his hitting against Jos Buttler’s team and decided to rope him for Abell, who will join the England Lions.

He scored 180 runs, including a century in three games. Bavuma hit 23 fours and three sixes on two of the biggest grounds in South Africa in Bloemfontein and Kimberley, as the Proteas won by a margin of 2-1

Sunrisers Eastern Cape currently have 17 points from eight games and are second in the points table.

The Gqeberha-based franchise will play its last two games of the league phase against Durban’s Super Giants on February 3 and Joburg Super Kings on February 5.
