The Men in Blue have been experimenting with the squad and the batting slots in recent series. However, the time is nearing for them to field their top 11 players as the Asia Cup 2022 is two weeks away.
The management will have to take tough decisions for particular slots. There has been an ongoing debate over Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik.
Meanwhile, a few days back, former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim had opined that Suryakumar Yadav must bat at No.4 to accommodate Pant and Karthik.
However, Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan Gavaskar disagreed with Karim and said that SKY should not bat anywhere rather the team must bat according to Yadav.
Speaking on ‘Sports Over the Top’, he said, “The T20 team needs to revolve around Surya. He has been India’s best performer, and the management must decide which position would bring the best out of him. Be it opening, No.3 or 4, the batting positions have to be decided according to SKY’s place.”
He further weighed his opinion on the Rishabh Pant and Karthik debate. He said that Karthik’s position is not up for grab.
He added, “There are a few positions which are not questionable. Rohit Sharma as opener and Karthik as a finisher.”
Although, he wants Pant to be included in the team and act as a floater. He said, “He is a once-in-a-generation cricketer. His selection is a no-brainer.”
