South Africa has sacked Dean Elgar from test captaincy and replaced him with Temba Bavuma. Temba will continue as a skipper in ODIs but has stepped down from his role in T20Is, following the team’s exit at the last two T20 World Cups.
In Tests, the right-handed batter will work with coach Shukri Conrad, whom he credited with helping him revive his ODI career. He scored a well-compiled hundred in one of the ODIs against England, which kept South Africa’s hopes of direct qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup alive.
Opener Sarel Erwee is no longer part of plans in red-ball cricket. Theunis de Bruyn was also told he was no longer required, which led to his retirement from international cricket. Aiden Markram has returned to Test cricket.
