Afghanistan put South Africa under pressure while defending 244 runs in the ICC World Cup 2023. However, the Proteas managed to close the game in their favour by 5 wickets for their seventh win in the tournament.

Temba Bavuma-led team finished their group stage campaign with 14 points from 9 matches. They lost to the Netherlands and India.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi (2 wickets) and Rashid Khan (2 wickets) struck crucial blows to give nervy moments to the Proteas.

Rassie van der Dussen (76 not out) and Quinton de Kock (41) contributed in the batting department.

For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai (97 not-out) played an important role. Gerald Coetzee (4 wickets) , Keshav Maharaj (2 wickets) and Lungi Ngidi (2 wickets) didn’t give easy balls to the Afghan batters.

South Africa will face Australia in the second semi-final on November 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
