Former India player Roger Binny has replaced Sourav Ganguly as BCCI President. He is the 36th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His appointment was announced at the BCCI AGM in Mumbai.
Binny was the Karnataka State Cricket Association President before agreeing to replace the former India captain. In the 1983 World Cup triumph, he took 18 wickets, the highest in the tournament.
Earlier, it was reported that Ganguly wanted to continue as the head of the board but was informed that there is no rule of giving a second term to the president.
“Ganguly was given the option of becoming the IPL chairman which he refused as he didn’t wanted to be a head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution,” the BCCI source said.
