Cricket fever is on the rise as the Cricket World Cup approaches in less than six weeks. The Asia Cup 2023 takes the spotlight, especially the India vs. Pakistan match this Saturday. The Indian cricket team bears the weight of not securing an ICC trophy since 2013.
This pivotal juncture requires Rohit Sharma, the current captain, and Virat Kohli to propel the team to victory in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly spotlights batting prowess, singling out Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill as pivotal to India’s success. Ganguly emphasizes the necessity for these three players to rise to the occasion.
“Virat is doing a fantastic job. He has looked really good in recent months and is batting extremely well. Along with Rohit Sharma, he will be India’s go-to man. As captain, Rohit will compete in his first and last World Cup. I’m referring to the 50-over World Cup, which will take place in four years. He might play T-20, but this is a new format for him. And he, too, has an outstanding record in world cups. He was great in the past World Cup, scoring 500 runs. Finally, Shubman Gill possesses the class to stand tall and win matches for India. If India is to win the tournament, each of them will have to stand up,” Ganguly said on ‘Backstage with Boria’.
All three are likely to play in the Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan. The continental tournament is the team’s final opportunity to experiment before the cricket World Cup. While Virat Kohli was a member of the 2011 ODI Cricket World Cup-winning side, Rohit Sharma is yet to taste ODI World Cup victory.
