Royal Challengers Bangalore had an off day with the ball in their opening Women’s Premier League game, conceding 223 runs against Delhi Capitals. Choosing to ball first, the bowlers failed to stop Shafali Verma and Australia captain Meg Lanning.

Verma and Lanning added 162 runs for the opening stand. They hit 24 boundaries and 4 sixes in the first 15 overs. Both scored half-centuries for DC.

Marizanne Kapp and Jemimah Rodrigues played cameos, in the end, to take Delhi to a big total.

In the first edition of the Indian Premier League in 2008, RCB conceded 222 runs after bowling first. Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum hit a sensational 158*. RCB were bowled out for 82 runs. On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana’s team finished their innings on 163/8 and lost the game by 60 runs.
