Shubman Gill has broken Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs against spin in a single season. Kohli held the record with 364 runs in 2016, but Gill surpassed him in the IPL final match against CSK.
Gill had come close to Kohli’s record after the Qualifier 2 match against MI, where he was just one run behind. However, he managed to surpass Kohli’s record and finished the season with 378 runs against spinners. In addition to breaking the record, Gill also became the youngest batter to win the Orange Cap.
It has been an impressive season for the young talent, as he has consistently proved his worth with the bat. Although he missed out on breaking Kohli’s record for the most runs in a single season or matching his record for most centuries, Gill’s achievement of surpassing his idol’s record is a significant milestone in his career.
The IPL 2023 final between CSK and GT, led by Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni respectively, was played on the reserve day after being postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. CSK won the toss and chose to field first, hoping to restrict GT’s batting lineup. Despite a good start, Gill couldn’t convert his innings into a big score and was dismissed after scoring 39 runs off just 20 balls.
