Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has said that Shikhar Dhawan is talented and important like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in one-day internationals. He will lead India in a three-match series against New Zealand.
However, he warned Dhawan about his slow starts in the last few games. “He is as important and talented as the other big two. Virat, Rohit, and Dhawan have given match-winning performances,” he said.
“He has 17 One Day hundreds. He knows the format very well. Dhawan is the captain, but he will have to work on his strike-rate as he has been a slow starter in the last few innings.”
Dhawan will be looking to come out of a poor run as he scored just 23 ruins in the last three ODIs against South Africa.
In 16 games this year, he has scored 567 runs at an average of 40.50.
The 36-year-old is the third-highest run-scorer for India in the current ODI team.
