India once again finished as runners-up in front of Australia in the ICC World Cup final. After losing the final in 2003, the story was repeated in 2023. The Men in Yellow thumped the Rohit Sharma-led team by 6 wickets in the title shot match in the ICC World Cup 2023.
India put up just 240 runs on the board and the team from Down Under had no problem in completing the chase. Travis Head scored a century while Marnus Labuschagne hit a fifty.
Rohit Sharma started the bowling with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Mohammed Siraj had partnered Bumrah in the previous 10 games but Rohit changed the combination.
Although Shami took David Warner’s wicket, he was wayward and couldn’t control the swing with the new white cherry.
Former Australia player Shane Watson was surprised. “I don’t understand why Mohammed Siraj, who has done well with the new ball, didn’t start the proceedings. This is the only area where they made a mistake. Shami was all over the place,” he said.
