Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has urged Babar Azam to leave the captaincy in T20Is to focus on leading the team in ODIs and Test cricket. Afridi said he respects Babar a lot, which is why he doesn’t want him to be a captain across formats.

Shahid also said Azam shouldn’t take up the captaincy at his new PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming edition.

Notably, Babar left Karachi Kings and signed up with Zalmi for the upcoming season of the PSL,

The 28-year-old batter was in poor form during the ICC T20 World Cup, scoring just 124 runs at a strike-rate of 93 in seven matches.

“Babar was not happy with management at Karachi Kings. He should leave the captaincy in the shortest format and continue leading the team in Tests and one-dayers,” Afridi said in an interview with Sama TV.

Afridi said Shadab Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, or Shan Masood can replace Babar in T20Is.
