BCCI, on Friday, announced that the first edition of women’s IPL would take place from March 2023.
Further details of the tournament would be revealed after the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is slated for September. Shah Rukh ukh Khan, who is the co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, wants to buy a franchise in the women’s IPL.
Sources close to Sportskeeda have revealed that KKR are ready to invest in a team based out of Kolkata. The main objective of the franchise is to include local players.
“KKR are quite interested in buying a women’s franchise based out of Kolkata. They are working with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to groom and scout local cricketers.”
The IPL franchises have bought teams in the upcoming UAE and CSA T20 leagues, but Knight Riders were the first franchise to buy a team in an overseas league. Notably, Shah Rukh Khan bought Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
A couple of months ago, the KKR announced the women’s team of Trinbago Knight Riders ahead of the inaugural WCPL season starting on 30th August.
