Virat Kohli could lose his place in the ICC T20 World Cup if he fails to perform in the upcoming matches. The selectors recently picked an ODI team for the series in West Indies, which Shikhar Dhawan will lead with Ravindra Jadeja as his deputy. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested.
According to TOI, Rohit, Pant, and Pandya will travel with the team to the Caribbean for the five-match T20I series. As for Kohli, his T20I future depends on his performance in the two T20Is and ODIs in England.
The team management and selectors are not clear about fitting Kohli in the middle order.
“Rohit, Pant, and Jadeja are likely to play in the T20Is in West Indies, but Bumrah will be rested. As for Kohli, one needs to see how he performs in England. The matches against the Ben Stokes-led team are very important for his future,” a source said.
Kohli’s form has been below-par for over a year now. He struggled in T20 cricket in this year’s IPL. With India having a lot of young players, who can play in the middle-order, the 33-year-old may find it hard to retain his place.
