The pressure is mounting on vice-captain KL Rahul after twin failures in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. He hasn’t played a lot of T20Is this year.
In the four innings he has played since his return from injury, Rahul has registered scores of 1, 30, 0, 36.
He strike-rate was less than 100 in the last match against Hong Kong at the Dubai International Stadium.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has warned KL ahead of remaining matches before the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
“Shubman Gill batted exceptionally well in the West Indies and Zimbabwe. There is a stiff competition for places in Team India. So if you aren’t scoring runs and not in form then you could lose your place. Also, only in-form players should be taken to the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia,” he told Sports Tak.
Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav have opened the innings. Even Ishan Kishan is waiting for his chance.
“You can’t expect him to return to form in the World Cup as all the games will be tough. He has a few games left to score runs, otherwise the national selection committee should take a call,” he added.
