Aakash Chopra claimed that Sanju Samson’s poor outing with the bat was one of the reasons for the Rajasthan Royals’ defeat against Mumbai Indians.
Samson scored just 14 runs off 10 deliveries as RR set a mammoth 213-run target for MI in Mumbai on Sunday, April 30. The home team chased the target with six wickets and three deliveries to spare to stop the Royals from topping the points table in IPL 2023.
Chopra credited Yashasvi Jaiswal for his outstanding knock. However, he raised concerns about Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson’s poor performance. He said that RR have a strong batting lineup and urged other batsmen to start scoring consistently.
“Jos Buttler is not scoring as frequently as he typically does this year. He had a strong start but failed to get going. Even Sanju Samson is not able to rack up runs. The fact that they have Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, and Devdutt Padikkal in their team makes them a dangerous side, but two of their key players aren’t scoring runs is an issue,” he said.
Buttler scored a 19-ball 18 against MI and didn’t look comfortable in the middle. England’s limited-overs skipper has crossed the 30-run mark only once in his last five innings. Also, Samson scored more than 25 runs just once in his last seven innings.
