Sachin Tendulkar after winning the World Cup
Sachin Tendulkar praised Wasim Akram for lifting his game

Sachin Tendulkar will go down as arguably the greatest cricketer of all time. After his 24-year-long illustrious career, the master blaster retired as the leading run-scorer in cricket with 34,357 runs, six thousand more than 2nd ranked Kumar Sangakkara.

Another highlight of Sachin’s career is that he faced some of the best bowlers in the history of the sport, and most of them hailed Tendulkar as the best they have bowled to.

Similarly, Sachin revealed the toughest bowler he faced and reserved massive praise for Pakistan legend Wasim Akram.

Akram is the leading ODI wicket-taker among pacers, with 502 wickets in 356 matches. Sachin paid a tribute to Akram in the latter’s autobiography, Sultan: A Memoir.

Sachin wrote about facing Akram for the first time and also credited the Pakistani for uplifting his game.

“A bowler of Akram’s calibre, who made the ball talk, lifts your game. His run-up was so natural, and unlike most fast bowlers, he did not need to measure his steps as he could just start from anywhere and was as effective.”

“When I first played against him, I had never faced anyone like Wasim. He was special. We always maintained a warm friendship.”

Akram has 916 international wickets in 460 games across a 19-year-long career.
