Indian skipper Rohit Sharma unleased his hitman mode against the Kiwis, as the 35- year-old struck his 30th ODI ton in the 3rd and final ODI at the Holkar stadium in Indore.
India, batting first, played aggressively, and openers Shubman Gill & Rohit Sharma put up a 211-run stand on the board before Sharma departed for 101(85), which included nine fours and six sixes.
The hitman had to wait a long time to get to his 30th ton, as he previously scored an ODI century three years ago against Australia. Nevertheless, with his blistering knock, Sharma broke several records and shattered Ricky Ponting and Sanath Jayasuriya’s records.
With the century, Rohit equalled Ponting’s tally of 30 centuries. Interestingly, Ponting has 30 tons in 365 innings, while Rohit did the same in just 234 innings.
Further, Rohit overtook Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya’s tally of most ODI sixes. Before the game, Rohit had 266 ODI sixes to his name, but six sixes in the match saw him surpass Jayasuriya’s tally of 270 sixes.
