India’s journey in this ICC T20 World Cup ended in a thumping 10-wicket defeat to England in the semi-finals. The Three Lions chased down 169 in just 16 overs, and openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made the target look easy.
Fans and experts expressed anger over skipper Rohit Sharma and the management for not putting up a show against England. Several pundits have raised their voices and demanded major changes in the team.
The latest to join the bandwagon and call out for a re-shuffle in the team is Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.
The 73-year-old legend did not mince his words and hinted that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would look to retire soon from the shortest format of the game.
“You never know, but I see a few retirements coming through. There are a lot of players on this side in their mid-30s who will consider their position in the team.”
Gavaskar further touted Hardik as the next Indian skipper. Notably, Hardik will lead India in its forthcoming tour of New Zealand.
“For the New Zealand tour, it will be a different team. Hardik will lead the side, and it is the sign from the selection committee that he will lead India in the coming days. He won the IPL in his first assignment.”
Pandya has captained India on three occasions and has won all three matches. He will travel to New Zealand as the captain.
