Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has opined on Suryakumar Yadav’s batting slot in the third and final ODI against Australia in Chennai. Jaffer believes sending the aggressive batter at No.7 signals that Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma don’t have confidence in him.
Suryakumar registered three consecutive golden ducks, including twice against Mitchell Starc.
Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo’s Timeout, Jaffer admitted he could not recall a top-order batter bagging a hat-trick of golden ducks and questioned sending him at No.7.
“I said before that playing him at No.5 would be better. Sending him at number 7 shows Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have no confidence in him. I can’t recall a No.11 batter getting out on three golden ducks in a row. He has my sympathies,” he said.
“Batting at 7 shows the management doesn’t have confidence in SKY. Ashton Agar’s two wickets in one over put the Men in Blue on the back foot.”
