The former head coach feels Virat should have captained for two more years.

Ravi Shastri led Team India to new heights as a head coach. India performed exceptionally well outside the home turf and won two successive Test series in Australia.

He was appointed head coach of the Indian team in 2017 after the ouster of Anil Kumble.

Besides, the team reached the final of the Champions Trophy, World Test Championship and the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup.

However, former Pakistan captain has blamed Shastri for Virat Kohli’s poor form. “Virat has failed because of Ravi Shastri,” said Rashid Latif.

Latif said that Shastri should have continued as a commentator instead of coaching the Indian team.

“In 2017, you sidelined a player like Anil Kumble and in came Ravi Shastri. He was working as a broadcaster and had no experience of coaching. Barring Virat Kohli, I am sure there would have been other people who played a role in getting Shastri in. The move backfired in the end. Had Shastri not taken the command of India’s coaching in his hands, Virat wouldn’t have gone out of form.”
