Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opined on Ravi Shastri’s comments about making Test cricket a three-four countries format. The former India coach suggested making Test cricket more competitive and relevant.
“Recently Ravi bhai said Test cricket should be played between 3-4 nations. If this happens, Ireland and other countries won’t ge the opportunity to play,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin, who is currently with the Indian T20I squad in West Indies, said there is a relationship between the Test format and T20 cricket.
“The two formats are related as if your first-class structure is good; players will get more opportunities. And players who perform in first-class cricket can mould their game according to T20 cricket,” said Ashwin.
“Test cricket needs importance to strengthen first-class cricket. If red-ball cricket is irrelevant, players won’t give their 100 percent. First-class cricket is almost gone in West Indies, and there are multiple T20 tournaments,” he added.
