Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes Team India should prepare spin tracks for the four-match Test series against Australia and use their home advantage to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 beginning on Thursday.
Ever since India thumped England at home in 2021, there has been a debate about preparing tracks for spinners and if it is within the spirit of the game.
Former Australian players have accused India of an unfair contest by preparing pitches unfit for a good game.
“India should look to produce turning tracks, and the ball starts to spin on the second day. Home advantage is crucial for India to win the Test series against Australia,” said Monty Panesar.
The hosts will go with three spinners and two pacers in the first Test in Nagpur. While Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin are sure to play; the management will have to decide between Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav when it comes to the third spinner,
Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Jaydev Unadkat will compete for two spots in the pace department.
Test squad for the first two Tests against Australia: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav.
