In the last couple of years, India failed to break their trophy drought but earned themselves the tag of having immense bench strength. With the emergence of IPL, several talented cricketers are fighting for each spot and often get left out despite a great performance.
Recently, Ishan Kishan failed to be a part of the playing XI despite a double hundred. However, one cricketer whom the fans feel has been treated unfairly the most by the selectors or management is Sanju Samson.
Sanju, who has been trying to cement his side in the Indian team, has a cult fan following, who have often bashed Sanju’s critics. Former India opener turned analyst Aakash Chopra, who recently appeared on the famous ‘The Ranveer Show’, assessed Sanju’s situation and made a remark that might not go well with Samson’s fan club.
Reacting to his fan-following, Chopra admitted that the RR captain has a cult following but stated that his fans need to realise that there is no place in the Indian team for Sanju, who is down in the pecking order.
“There is no place in the playing XI. Ishan scored a double hundred and was out for the next few matches. The level of quality is insane, and Sanju has not grabbed the opportunities that came his way.”
Further, Chopra reacted to a remark which stated that had Sanju been a part of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, India would have won the World Cup.
“With Sanju, the atmosphere is created as if he is a god gift to Indian cricket. People said, ‘Play him, and things will be fine. We would have won the World Cup’, Sanju would have not made any difference.”
