Sanju Samson was not considered for the upcoming T20I series against Australia. The national selectors have rested senior players, considering their workload during the ICC World Cup 2023.

Suryakumar Yadav will be leading India in five matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad is SKY’s deputy for three contests.

Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma have made it to the squad. Shashi Tharoor, who is the Member of Parliament, has again spoken in favour of Samson.

He feels the wicket-keeper batter should have led India. Tharoor also highlighted Yuzvendra Chahal’s absence.

“This is truly inexplicable. @IamSanjuSamson should have not just been selected, he should have led the side in the absence of all the seniors. His captaincy experience with Kerala and @rajasthanroyals is more current than SKY’s. Our selectors need to explain themselves to the cricket-loving public. And why no @yuzi_chahal either?” he wrote on X.

Samson has failed to cement his place in national team despite several chances.
