Once friends and now foes, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli revived their long-standing rivalry in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) stunning victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Former Indian spinner Anil Kumble who was once their teammate conveyed his disappointment.
In match No.43 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Kohli and Gambhir wrote another tragic chapter in their bitter rivalry, more than ten years after their first public disagreement in the IPL. After RCB’s match against LSG in Lucknow, Kohli and Gambhir were seen exchanging jabs on the field.
Former India captain Kumble expressed his opinion on the Kohli-Gambhir dispute in the IPL, saying it was unjust to witness the renowned cricketers engage in animosity following the intense match. There is a lot of emotion involved, but you shouldn’t show it here. You need to talk to someone about this. Still, this is unacceptable,”
“You must always show respect to your opponent and the game. When a game is over, you should shake hands and tip your hat off to the game because you have got to respect that. I’m not sure what was said, but it might have included some personal comments, but you don’t want that on the ground. It wasn’t the most pleasant thing to see,” he continued.
Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined 100 percent of their match fees for breaching Article 2.21 of the IPL code of conduct.
