India on Saturday announced their 15-man squad for the forthcoming three ODI series against Zimbabwe.
The management went ahead with a second choice players led by Shikhar Dhawan, who also captained India to an ODI series victory against West Indies.
The Indian management is experimenting with the slots ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. However, the opening position has had the maximum changes.
Post-IPL, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, and Cheteshwar Pujara have opened for India across formats.
Despite several youngsters being given the chance to play at the highest level, one name that the selectors have completely ignored is Prithvi Shaw.
The 22-year-old had a decent IPL. He amassed 283 runs in 10 matches. He scored 355 runs in six matches in the Ranji Trophy.
Prithvi last appeared for India in July 2021.
The youngster reacted to the snub by posting a short clip of him working out on Instagram.
He wrote ‘let’s get back to work’ on the video that he posted. Notably, Shaw was holidaying in the Maldives and resumed training as soon as he landed in India.
Apart from his form with the willow, Shaw’s fitness has been questioned. Former India fielding coach R Sridhar hailed Shaw’s talent but criticised his work ethic and lack of attention towards his fitness.
