Mohammed Siraj taking a wicket
Siraj became new world number one ODI bowler

The ICC on Wednesday updated their weekly ranking charts. Indian players were rewarded because of their scintillating display against New Zealand in the recently concluded ODI series.

The biggest talking point was Mohammed Siraj, who became the new number-one-ranked ODI bowler in the world. The 28-year-old, who picked up 14 wickets in the last five matches, jumped two spots to go past Trent Boult and Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood to become the top-ranked ODI bowler for the first time.

Siraj, who took 24 wickets in 2022, has 729 rating points, two higher than second-placed Josh Hazlewood.

Further, Shubman Gill, who, with the help of a double hundred and a century in the first and final ODI, equalled Babar Azam’s record for scoring the most runs in a three-match bilateral series (360), jumped two spots and overtook Virat Kohli to rank 6th. The 23-year-old also became India’s best batter in the ODIs.

Further, Kohli faced a solitary rank slump and sits on 7th position while centurion Rohit Sharma jumped to 9th rank.

Now India have Suryakumar Yadav as the number 1 T20I batter and Ravindra Jadeja as the number one Test all-rounder. Further, the Men in Blue are the top-ranked team in the T20Is and ODIs.
