Gujarat Titans won the Orange and Purple Caps in the Indian Premier League 2023 but the title went to Chennai Super Kings. Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami topped the batting and bowling charts. However, their performances went in vain as CSK defeated Gujarat by 5 wickets on May 30.
Ambati Rayudu, who retired from cricket after the tournament with the MS Dhoni-led team, feels Orange and Purple Caps are not important as they don’t guarantee success.
“Mumbai & Chennai have been two teams blessed with really good team players than individual stars. If you look at Mumbai, they don’t have many Orange and Purple caps but are leading in trophy count. Same is with Chennai as they have got lots of players to go for everything,” said Ambati Rayudu.
Chennai and Mumbai have five titles each in the 16-year old.
