Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya
LSG vs MI: Players battle to watch out for

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in match number 63 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 16. Both teams are in the top four in the points table going to the game. LSG are fourth with 13 points from 12 matches, while Mumbai are third with 14 points from 12 games. In their last match, Lucknow hammered Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets, while Mumbai got the better of Gujarat Titans (GT) by 27 runs. Here are player battles for LSG vs MI IPL 2023 match 63.

#1 Quinton de Kock vs Jason Behrendorff

Coming in for the injured KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock has immediately made up for the batter’s absence. He smashed 70 off 41 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) and followed it up with 29 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Can he carry on his good form?

Jason Behrendorff has done a good job for Mumbai Indians, reducing the effect of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer’s absence. In eight matches, he has claimed 12 wickets at an average of 22.67 and an economy rate of 9.71. MI will want him to continue picking key wickets.

#2 Ishan Kishan vs Krunal Pandya

After a slow start, Ishan Kishan has found batting rhythm in recent times. In three of MI’s last four games, he has notched up scores of 75, 42 and 31.He has taken on the bowling in the powerplay and has come out on top often.

LSG skipper Krunal Pandya has brought himself into bowl early in some of the recent games and has tasted success as well. Against SRH, he excelled with figures of 2/24. With conditions in Lucknow expected to favor spin and Kishan’s known weakness against slow bowling, this could be a good contest.

#3 Prerak Mankad vs Piyush Chawla

Prerak Mankad was the surprise success story for LSG against SRH. He was the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 64 off 45 as Lucknow chased down 183 despite a slow start. There will be greater expectations from Mankad now.

MI leggie Piyush Chawla had another good match against GT. He cleaned up Vijay Shankar and got the wicket of the dangerous Rahul Tewatia as well to finish with figures of 2/36. Chawla’s battle against Mankad could be one of the defining tussles of the match.

#4 Suryakumar Yadav vs Amit Mishra

Suryakumar Yadav has been in exceptional form for MI lately. In the team’s last two matches, he has clobbered 83 off 35 vs RCB and 103 not out off 49 against GT. The kind of form that SKY is in augurs really well for MI as they look to seal a playoffs berth.

Veteran leggie Amit Mishra has not had a lot to do in IPL 2023 so far. But he has shown glimpses of good rhythm and has claimed some key scalps as well. Mishra, an old warhorse, loves a challenge. The one-on-one battle with Suryakumar will inspire him.

#5 Nicholas Pooran vs Chris Jordan

Nicholas Pooran was exceptional for LSG in the chase against SRH. After Mankad and Marcus Stoinis began the fightback, Pooran did the brilliant finishing job, slamming an unbeaten 44 off 13, with three fours and four sixes. He will be keen to carry on the great batting form.

Chris Jordan has come in as Jofra Archer’s replacement and is known as a death-overs specialist. He is yet to make an impact in the two matches he has played so far. He registered figures of 1/48 against RCB and 0/34 versus GT. Jordan will want to make his presence felt. Can he stop Pooran in his tracks?
