Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes’ heartwarming gesture won hearts in the rain-hit IPL 2023 game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Due to the wet outfield, the afternoon match between LSG and CSK started late. The rain started when Super Giants were 125/7 in 19.2 overs. Rhodes immediately stepped in to assist the ground staff, bringing the covers to protect the pitch. Rhodes’ amazing deed impressed everyone.
LSG’s official Twitter handle tweeted, “Jonty Rhodes, always an asset in the field,” to which Rhodes replied. “Just trying to live up to my supporters’ signs from the ’90s which claimed that ‘water covers 70% of the earth, and Jonty covers rest.”
Krunal Pandya captained LSG against CSK in the absence of skipper KL Rahul. The Lucknow team had a disastrous start and was 44/5 in the first 10 overs.
Ayush Badoni, who came to bat no 7, resisted CSK’s bowling unit and lifted LSG’s score with his half-century. The game was called off when the rain didn’t stop, with Badoni batting on 59.
