Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed KL Rahul to get a long run at the top of the batting order in T20Is, saying the vice-captain is a good player who needs time to get back to form following his return from injury.
Sunil Gavaskar, speaking to India Today after the Asia Cup 2022 match against Hong Kong, said KL Rahul should be treated like other players who were kept in the team despite failures.
Rahul struggled to get going as he accumulated 36 from 39 deliveries. He got out on a golden duck against Pakistan in India’s Asia Cup 2022 opener.
“KL Rahul is a class act. If others can play for a long duration despite failures, why not KL Rahul? He is the team’s vice-captain and can win matches in the T20 format,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
“He is coming back from an injury, so the rhythm is missing. But it will come back by spending time in the middle,” he added.
