The head coach of Afghanistan’s national cricket team, Jonathan Trott is on the brink of sealing a new deal following the team’s outstanding performances in the ODI World Cup 2023. The former England cricketer, who took charge in July 2022, is close to agreeing to a one-year extension.

“I’ll definitely sign, but I need to ensure it’s the right choice for the team. The offer suits me, but I need to make sure the coaching support and staff are exactly what I’m looking for,” Trott said to the Independent.

Under Trott’s leadership, Afghanistan has achieved historic victories, and he aims to continue the positive trajectory.

“We’ve made some changes in the coaching staff, but it’s crucial to ensure we have the right coaches to propel the team forward. Our aim is progress, not regression,” he added.

Trott not only focuses on immediate success but also commits to establishing a foundation for future success.

“I aim to leave things better than I found them, setting a high standard for the team’s future. Winning isn’t just for us, it’s about constant improvement. That’s my coaching focus,” he said.

Trott’s current contract is set to expire at the end of 2023, but with the extension, he will lead the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.

Jonathan Trott’s dedication to both immediate success and long-term improvement showcases his progress-driven approach to leading Afghanistan’s cricket team.
