Shubman Gill scored his maiden Test hundred on the third day of India’s first game against Bangladesh. His innings extended India’s dominance in the contest and also boosted Gill’s chances of playing regularly for the team.
Gill scored 110 off 152 balls, hitting 10 fours and three sixes. He first shared a 70-run partnership with KL Rahul and then added 113 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a hundred.
Several former players, including Ajay Jadeja, hailed Gill for his knock.
“A century in Test cricket is always special, and I don’t even know how it feels. I can talk about myself and not others. Gill needs to savor the moment. If you see Pujara, who scored a hundred after three years, it is a different celebration,” said Jadeja on Sony Sports.
Jadeja said that Gill should build on from his recent performances. “I hope he will only move forward as he is not the guy to let his guard down. Prithvi Shaw, also of his age group, scored a century in his first game but is not around now,” said Jadeja.
“Gill is moving forward since we saw him first, and the best thing about him. He can’t rest on his success. He has added something whenever we have seen him,” he added.
