The ICC World Cup 2023 is two weeks away. Ahead of the prestigious white-ball event, India sweat hard on Shreyas Iyer’s fitness who is recovering from a back spasm.
The management considers Iyer an integral part of the playing XI, but the KKR skipper has been out of action for the last seven months because of a back injury. Iyer featured in just one game against Pakistan in the group stage but failed to make a mark.

Recently Gautam Gambhir acessed Iyer’s situation and remarked that the 28-year-old should be dropped from the World Cup squad because he is not fit. “Iyer’s injury is a matter of concern. He has been out of the team for a long side and the management should not take a player to the World Cup who is not fit. He should soon get replaced in the World Cup squad.”
In the latest events, 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev slammed Gambhir. When he got asked about Iyer’s place in the 15-member list, Dev remarked, “I am nobody to answer that. The selectors are doing their job. It is very easy to raise fingers at one player. I hope he makes a strong return and plays all the three games against Australia.”
Notably, Iyer has been named in the squad for the series against Australia but his participation is based on his fitness by then.
