Ishan has been India's first choice opener in the pecking order.

Days after the announcement of the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2022, Ishan Kishan, who was left out, reacted to his snub and has a message for the selectors.

Notably, Ishan has been India’s first choice opener in the pecking order in the absence of the regular opening duo of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

The 24-year-old southpaw is India’s second-highest run-scorer, with 430 runs in T20I cricket in 2022. Thus, his omission has come as a shock to several fans, experts and the player himself.

Breaking the silence on the snub, Kishan spoke to ANI and said that his focus is to stay positive and work harder.

“Selectors also go through a lot of planning to find the right combinations for the team. Thus, what they did is fair. It only motivates me to work harder. I want to score more runs, and I am sure I will be in the team the day selectors are confident of me.”

A few days ago, before the squad was announced, Aakash Chopra had bashed the selectors for putting Ishan Kishan in cold storage.

Notably, Kishan was the primary backup opener for India before they began experimenting with Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav in the opening. Thus, looking at the squad, it looks like the Indian management prefers makeshift openers in the team than reserving a slot for a proper backup opener.

Kishan last played a T20I against the West Indies, where he scored 11 of 13 deliveries.
