The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 29 entered the Guinness World Record. The contest at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was watched by 101,566 spectators, the highest in the history of T20 cricket.

The official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on Sunday, November 27.

“A proud moment for everyone as India creates the Guinness World Record. This one is for all our fans for their unmatched passion and unwavering support. Congratulations to @GCAMotera and @IPL.”

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, wrote, “Extremely delighted & proud to receive the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a T20 match when 101,566 people witnessed the epic @IPL final at @GCAMotera’s magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium on 29 May 2022. A big thanks to our fans for making this possible! @BCCI.”

GT defeated RR by 7 wickets to lift the trophy in their maiden season. Captain Hardik Pandya was named the Man of the Match for taking three wickets and scoring 34 off 30 balls.

The Royals managed just 130 in 20 overs.
