Salman Butt said India should include in-form Shubman Gill in the playing XI instead of KL Rahul in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
The former Pakistan captain emphasized that Gill doesn’t deserve to be benched, given that he has been India’s best player recently, and he should replace KL Rahul as the vice-captain has struggled.
“KL Rahul is a good player but hasn’t been among runs in the last few months. You can a player of Shubman Gill’s talent out for Rahul. KL should remain in the scheme of things but the management should play the young batter,” he said.
Gill scored a Test hundred in the Bangladesh series while he came up with big hundreds in the ODIs against New Zealand. Shubman also smashed a hundred in the series-deciding T20I against the Kiwis.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul was the worst performer in Bangladesh and scored 20 runs in the opening Test against the Pat Cummins-led team.
