Under Rahul Dravid, India failed to win a major trophy last year, but the Men in Blue built a reputation for having great bench strength. Several experts and cricketing legends believe that India have the potential to field 2-3 international teams.
On the contrary, arch-rivals Pakistan, who did well in the major events, have failed to find their preferred XI, and the side saw several changes in 2022. Legendary batter Kamran Akmal has compared the bench strength of two neighbouring countries and blasted PCB for their recent changes in the domestic circuit.
Notably, under Ramiz Raja’s tenure, PCB stopped the departmental cricket, which Akmal reckoned is the biggest reason behind the lack of bench strength in the present team. When asked if Pakistan hold the potential to field 2-3 international teams like India, Akmal took a dig at his own country and said that they must first field one proper team before thinking of 2-3.
“Pehele aap ek to bana lein thik se (First, at least make one team properly). Before 2019, I would have said yes because of the domestic circuit we had. Departmental cricket has given Pakistan so many great players. Since it has stopped, we are finding it difficult to make one good team.”
