India are looking forward to winning the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia at the Oval. The bowling attack will be led by Mohammed Shmai, who will have Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav or Shardul Thakur for assistance. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the genuine match-winners in the spin department.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said that Mohammed Shami needs to step up and take his game to another level if India are to win the championship.
“When you talk to Australian batters, they always talk about Shami and how he bowls with the new and old ball,” he said. There is no Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma in the side. The two played against New Zealand in WTC’s last title shot match.
Shami has played just three Test matches in 2023, where he took nine scalps at an average of 28.22.
