Former India player Virender Sehwag made a shocking statement on Team India’s chances in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. Speaking on Cricbuzz, he said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) would help India in winning the tournament as the pitches would be prepared by the Indian groundsmen.
“I know the producer will cut my statment but I believe ICC will help India in winning the World Cup. They will use the local groundsmen to prepare tracks. It is good for the ICC if India reach the last stage of the tournament as their ratings would go high. The pitches for the semis and finals will be prepared according to the benefit of the Men in Blue,” he said.
India last won the ODI World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2011, and since then, the team has managed to reach the semis but couldn’t cross the stage. They lost to Australia in 2015, while New Zealand shocked them in the 2019 edition.
